TRAGEDY IN OGUN: 11 Killed as Vehicle Plunges Off Eruku Bridge on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of at least 11 people after a vehicle reportedly plunged off the Eruku Bridge along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.

According to a statement from the spokesperson of the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi, the crash occurred late in the night and involved a gold Toyota vehicle with registration number GGE722KJ.

The vehicle reportedly somersaulted before falling off the bridge, trapping all occupants inside.

Odunsi confirmed that all 11 passengers 10 adult males and one adult female lost their lives in the tragic incident.

FRSC rescue operatives from the Itori Unit Command were immediately deployed to the scene, with support from members of the local community who helped in the recovery operation.

He added that the bodies were later deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ifo.

Preliminary findings by the FRSC suggest that driving under the influence and overloading may have contributed to the crash.

Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists using the Abeokuta-Lagos route to exercise extreme caution, especially during night travel. He also extended condolences to the families of the deceased.

Road accidents remain a recurring issue on major highways in Ogun State, with safety officials continuously warning drivers against speeding, drunk driving, and overloading.
