PDP Confident Of Reclaiming National Assembly Majority, Presidency In 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party has expressed confidence in reclaiming majority seats in the National Assembly and winning the presidency in the 2027 general elections, blaming its current minority status on internal disputes, litigations, and defections that trailed the 10th Senate.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, stated this in an interview on Sunday, insisting that Nigerians were already yearning for new leadership ahead of the next election cycle.

According to him, the party’s internal crisis and court cases weakened its position in the National Assembly and led to several defections.

“We were not having the majority number even at the beginning of the 10th Senate. Subsequently, the disputes, disagreements, court cases, and litigations within the party caused so much dissatisfaction and uncertainty, wherein most of the assembly members defected to various political parties,” he said.

Mohammed, however, expressed confidence that the PDP would bounce back stronger ahead of 2027.

He also accused lawmakers of the ruling All Progressives Congress of failing in legislative oversight and constituency representation, claiming many lawmakers no longer maintain close ties with their constituents.

“They have failed to maintain close ties with their constituents. Most of them visit their constituents once in a year. The people are aggrieved. The people are angry. There is so much tension,” he added.

The PDP spokesman further stated that the party was optimistic about producing candidates capable of winning elections across the country.

“Come 2027, we will, by the grace of God, not only have a majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate, but we are also hoping that we will win the seat of the presidency,” he said.
