Fear and sadness have spread across the Sangotedo area of Lagos State after a popular shawarma vendor identified simply as Andy was shot dead by suspected cultists.
According to reports, the incident happened on Saturday evening while the victim was attending to customers at his shawarma stand near the ShopRite area of Sangotedo.
Eyewitnesses said armed men arrived at the spot pretending to be regular customers before suddenly opening fire on him at close range.
Attackers Allegedly Posed As Customers
A police source revealed that the suspects allegedly acted like buyers before launching the deadly attack.
“The suspects came pretending to buy shawarma. While the victim was attending to them, they suddenly brought out guns and shot him in the head before escaping,” the source said.
The attackers reportedly fled immediately after the shooting, leaving the victim lying in a pool of blood.
Police officers later arrived at the scene and evacuated the body.
Cult Group Allegedly Claims Responsibility
Although police investigations are still ongoing, an anti-cultism platform known as Confra Naija claimed the attack was cult-related.
According to the platform, suspected members of the Eiye cult group allegedly took responsibility for the killing.
The platform described the deceased, popularly known as “Aboki De Junior,” as a peaceful and hardworking businessman from Benue State.
The statement noted that he was widely known in the area for being calm, friendly, and welcoming to everyone.
Emotional Scene At The Crime Spot
A video circulating online showed residents gathered around the victim’s body moments after the attack.
Some people were seen crying openly, while a woman believed to be related to the deceased clung to his lifeless body in deep emotional pain.
The heartbreaking scene has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the growing insecurity and cult-related violence in parts of Lagos.
Cult Violence Still A Major Concern
Lagos has witnessed repeated cases of cult clashes and targeted killings in areas including:
• Lekki-Ajah axis
• Ikorodu
• Mushin
• Lagos Mainland
Security experts say supremacy battles between rival cult groups continue to fuel violence in several communities.
The latest killing also comes months after another shawarma vendor was reportedly shot dead by suspected cultists along the Badagry Expressway area of Lagos.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, had not officially commented on the incident.
