No Flour, No Mercy: Gaza’s Starving Civilians Shot at U.S.-Backed Aid Site Amid Ceasefire Collapse

No Flour, No Mercy: Gaza’s Starving Civilians Shot at U.S.-Backed Aid Site Amid Ceasefire Collapse

In southern Gaza, the line for food ended in blood. At least 31 Palestinians were fatally shot as they made their way toward an aid distribution point near Rafah, a location affiliated with the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Witnesses and hospital officials say Israeli forces opened fire on civilians who had been told by the military to gather there. Most of the wounded over 100 people suffered gunshot wounds, according to the Red Cross, which called the incident the largest influx of dead their field hospital has seen in over a year.

“They weren’t carrying weapons just empty bags,” one witness said.

The massacre occurred the same day Israeli airstrikes killed 28 more Palestinians, including four children, bringing the death toll to 59 in a single day. But the Israeli military has denied responsibility, saying it only fired “warning shots.”

The GHF also denied any violence at their site, but two of its own contractors told The Associated Press that armed guards fired live rounds and stun grenades as desperate civilians rushed the gates for food.

Despite the mounting death toll, ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas collapsed this week, with no breakthroughs after two days of talks between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump.

As Gaza edges closer to famine and aid access remains restricted, many now question what role U.S. funding and political cover are playing in prolonging the war.
