Seriake Dickson: NDC Backs G100 Consensus Bid, Remains Focused on 2027 Victory

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has described the G100 Alliance’s efforts to produce a consensus presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections as a positive initiative, while stressing that his party remains focused on winning the election.

Dickson made the remarks while appearing as a guest on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday.

The NDC National Leader said the party was aware of the activities and efforts of the G100, adding that the group’s objective was not misplaced and that the party supported the initiative in principle.

According to Dickson, however, the NDC has already settled its presidential ticket and is concentrating on presenting its case to Nigerians and securing victory at the polls.

He also said the party remained open to working with and receiving support from other political parties and groups ahead of the election.

“The NDC is aware of the moves and the efforts they are making. The NDC, in principle, endorses what they are doing,” Dickson said.

He described the NDC’s presidential ticket as “exciting,” “vibrant,” “appealing” and “balanced,” expressing confidence that it would resonate with Nigerians both at home and abroad.

“We have the strongest ticket, and I believe that they know that. I believe that every Nigerian knows it,” he said.

Dickson stressed that the NDC’s support for the G100’s initiative would not prevent the party from pursuing its own electoral ambitions.

“Therefore, we remain committed to working with everybody. In principle, no problem, but we are going into the election as NDC,” he said.

He added that the party would welcome support from other parties and presidential candidates if they decided to back the NDC.

“If other parties and candidates support us, which we think they should do, well and good. But we are working to win the election,” Dickson stated.

G100 Seeks Opposition Cooperation Ahead of 2027

The comments come amid ongoing efforts by opposition political stakeholders to build greater cooperation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Opposition leaders recently gathered at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for the G100 Alliance Summit, where representatives of six opposition political parties discussed possible areas of cooperation and collaboration.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to establish a common front among opposition groups and build a political force capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu at the 2027 polls.

With political parties and groups exploring possible alliances ahead of the election, the question of whether opposition forces can agree on a common presidential candidate remains one of the major issues shaping the emerging 2027 political landscape.

For the NDC, however, Dickson’s remarks indicate that the party intends to maintain its own presidential ticket while remaining open to cooperation with other political groups.
