Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has explained why northern political leaders decided to align with Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Kwankwaso said leaders in the North carefully assessed possible political partners before agreeing that Obi was the most capable person to work with.
According to him, the alliance was formed based on competence, trust, and a shared goal of moving Nigeria forward.
Kwankwaso dismissed suggestions of a hidden rivalry between his camp and Obi’s supporters, insisting that political partnerships can succeed when leaders avoid greed and focus on governance.
He also referenced historical alliances between northern and southeastern political leaders in Nigeria, describing the current coalition as part of a long political tradition.
The development comes as political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election continue to reshape Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
