Residents of Eda Oniyo Ekiti in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State were thrown into panic on Tuesday evening after gunmen reportedly invaded a church during an open-air crusade service.
According to community sources, the attackers stormed the church located on the outskirts of the town while the programme was ongoing.
Sources said the presiding pastor was shot during the attack, while several worshippers, including elderly persons and children, were abducted and taken into a nearby forest.
The exact number of kidnapped victims had not been confirmed as of the time of reporting.

A government source reportedly confirmed the incident and said security operatives had been deployed to the area and were already trailing the attackers.
Authorities expressed hope that the victims would be rescued safely.
Police were yet to issue an official statement at the time of filing this report.
