When Amina Al-Hassan fled Gaza with her newborn daughter, she thought she’d finally found safety in the U.S. But what awaited her in Texas was another kind of fear.
After crossing legally with humanitarian parole, Amina was detained, interrogated, and held for three weeks in a cold facility.
Her baby grew sick. Her calls for help were ignored. “I ran from bombs only to be locked in a cage,” she said. Advocacy groups have now picked up her case, calling it a “human rights failure.” For Amina, the American dream has turned into another war this time, against the system.
