A mother is demanding justice after police fatally shot her 22-year-old son, who she says was experiencing a mental health crisis.
According to family members, Danielle Cross called 911 last Sunday asking for help as her son Marcus began acting erratically. When officers arrived, bodycam footage shows Marcus holding a kitchen utensil and walking toward the officers. Within seconds, they opened fire.
“He wasn’t a threat. He needed help,” Cross told reporters, breaking into tears. “I called for help they brought bullets.”
The Louisville Police Department says the incident is under internal review. Protesters gathered outside city hall Tuesday evening calling for an independent investigation and the release of full footage.
Marcus had no prior criminal record and had been undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder.
