Columbia University Found in Violation of U.S. Civil Rights Law Over Antisemitism

 

The U.S. Department of Education has found Columbia University guilty of violating federal civil rights law after failing to adequately respond to reports of antisemitic harassment on campus.

Following an investigation triggered by multiple student complaints, the university was found to have lacked proper mechanisms to address hate speech and harassment targeting Jewish students. The findings have triggered demands for institutional reforms and stronger protections for minority students.

Columbia has pledged to implement sweeping changes, including staff training, student support services, and updated anti-discrimination policies.
