Scripture Focus: Leviticus 5:1–13

Under the Old Testament law, when people sinned, offerings were required for the atonement of sin. Depending on the circumstances, offerings could include animals such as lambs, goats, turtledoves or pigeons.

Imagine if you and I had to continually provide animal sacrifices to atone for our sins. How would we cope?

Would we have to keep buying rams, lambs, goats or birds every time we sinned? The truth is that none of us could meet such a demand.

This points us to the great sacrifice God provided through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus came to shed His blood for the forgiveness of sins, so that through Him we can receive eternal life.

The Promise of Christ

The coming of Jesus was not an accident. Scripture points to God’s plan of salvation.

Isaiah 7:14 speaks of the sign of the coming Messiah, while John 3:16 reminds us of God’s love in sending His only Son so that those who believe in Him may have eternal life.

Jesus also gives an invitation to those who are weary and burdened.

In Matthew 11:28–30, Jesus calls people to come to Him, learn from Him and find rest for their souls.

What a wonderful invitation.

Salvation Is Found in Jesus

John 1:12 teaches that those who receive Christ and believe in His name are given the right to become children of God.

Jesus came to offer salvation to everyone who will receive Him.

I want you to understand this: your own strength cannot save you.

Your good works, possessions, charms, human abilities or anything else you depend on outside Christ cannot give you salvation.

As Ephesians 2:8–9 teaches, we are saved by grace through faith. Salvation is God’s gift, not something we can earn through our own works.

What the Blood of Jesus Means for Us

The blood of Jesus represents the sacrifice He made for our redemption.

We do not have to depend on repeated animal sacrifices. Christ gave Himself for us, and through Him we can receive forgiveness and reconciliation with God.

This is why the message of the cross is so important.

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you can turn to Him today.

A Prayer of Salvation

Lord Jesus, thank You for dying for me and providing forgiveness of sins through Your blood. I acknowledge that I have sinned. Please blot away my sins and come into my life. Abide in me and help me to live according to Your will. Amen.
