Nigerian businessman and philanthropist Tony Elumelu has called on African nations to welcome foreign investors and move beyond colonial-era grievances.
Speaking during an interview with AFP at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Elumelu said Africa needs massive global private investment to drive development and create opportunities for young people.
According to him, Africa should focus more on the future rather than remaining trapped by the past.
“We should stop this victim mentality,” he said while discussing Africa’s relationship with global powers including France, China, the United States and others.
Elumelu stressed that infrastructure, electricity, transportation, security and internet access remain some of the biggest needs across the continent.
He also noted that Africa’s growing young population requires urgent job creation and economic opportunities.
