Oyo Residents Protest After Police Release Suspected Bandit – “Oyo Police Are Killing Us!”

Residents of Jobele in Afijio LGA, Oyo State, took to the Ibadan-Oyo Expressway in a dramatic protest after claiming that local police released a suspected bandit they had arrested just the night before.

According to eyewitnesses, the arrest happened late at night, but by morning, the suspect was allegedly freed, leaving the residents shocked and outraged.

“Oyo police are killing us. We arrested a bandit last night and the police have released him this morning,” one protester shouted, echoing the frustration of the community.

The protesters blocked parts of the expressway, calling for urgent action and accountability from the state’s law enforcement. They warned that repeated releases of suspected criminals are putting the safety of their communities at serious risk.

Community Fears and Tensions

This incident has highlighted ongoing tensions between Oyo residents and local police authorities. Many believe that such actions by the police undermine trust in law enforcement and embolden criminals to operate freely.

Residents are demanding transparency, strict enforcement of the law, and that authorities take decisive steps to protect ordinary citizens from criminal activities.

Why This Matters

Oyo State has seen growing concerns over security in several local communities, with residents increasingly feeling unsafe. Incidents like this protest bring attention to the urgent need for reforms and accountability in the state’s policing.
