The GOP-controlled House passed a sweeping budget bill nicknamed the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” extending Trump-era tax cuts but gutting essential healthcare programs.
Analysts say the bill would add $2.6 trillion to the national debt, cut Medicaid by 20%, and eliminate subsidies under the Affordable Care Act while massively benefiting the wealthy.
“It’s a disaster wrapped in gold,” said Rep. Katie Porter. “This bill gives tax breaks to billionaires and pulls life-saving care from seniors and children.”
Protests are already erupting outside the Capitol.
